It has been decided that the entire team behind this small blog will dedicate the upcoming decade towards realizing its cherished vision of building one hundred network states. Before we go ahead, what exactly is a network-state in the first place? A network-state is a decentralized collective of individuals from across the world who co-ordinate time, effort and money to first build a digital economy (ideally a game :)) using digital tools and then eventually own, operate, process and manage raw materials, products and services in the physical world.
For the first time in history, using the power of the internet and blockchain technology, human beings can build their own nations based on certain ideologies and principles. For the entirety of history, nation-states were forged over shared suffering, wars and conquests; often imposed by the dominance and ambitions of certain communities over others. Today, the world finds itself at the precipice of many problems that are global in nature and require the co-operation of a global community of leaders and builders. A new global government so to speak. However, this should not be thought about as an institution like the United Nations or the World Bank. The fact of the matter is that when power is distributed centrally owing to the over-bearing dominance of one or more large, developed countries; there gets created inefficient, pointless, needless power struggles and politics. Time is of the essence. The way of centralized institutions is based on authority. Imagined authority that feels sorely outdated.
This is not to say that nation-states will cease to exist. Rather, they will. However, depending on current social attitudes and geography, the role of nation-states should be limited to a few domains only. Namely, the upkeep of security and public infrastructure. Nation-states (certain politicians), attracted to the efficiencies and energy of the private markets would be sensible to co-operate rather than compete with global collectives who only want to benefit everyone in their network all enforced by code. We stand on the cusp of ensuring commonly-aligned incentive structures enforced and upheld by the blockchain. In a sense, blockchain technology is like an accounting system plus a meritocracy creator plus the ultimate registrar of justice. The only question that now remains to be seen is who adopts it first and builds the most relevant network-states.
Building a network-state for cannabis, psychedelics and other plants has its benefits. First, it creates a digital version of the real economy and gives people access to tools via which they can choose their own roles in the network. Post the adoption of the network in large numbers, the focus of the collective will shift towards the whole world, as the physical economy will merge with the digital. This can be replicated and scaled for as many network-states as possible. It was about the work now.
